Chantalle Todd
Artist & Storyteller
Mythopoet of the Luminous Limina
Chantalle is a visual artist and fantasy storyteller building worlds through composite photography, digital painting, and writing.
Her work explores a bridge plane she calls the Luminous Limina, a symbolic, interior landscape where personal mythology takes visual form and bridges into unique fictional worlds.
Where It Began, Where It's Going.
I’ve always lived in two worlds.
One is the one we share, but the other is someplace I’ve only recently named. The Luminous Limina, a bridge plane of glowing thresholds and in-between spaces, is the home of my creative soul. All authentic work I’ve produced in my lifetime has come from it. Part personal dream world, part magical playground, part collective psyche, and part something other, this space has at times been healing and transforming for me and, on occasion, been eerily prophetic.
In craft, I’ve explored the Luminous Limina through multiple mediums over the last few decades. Most prominently: composite photography (images built from multiple photographed layers) since 2018, digital painting since 2010, and writing since I could form a sentence. There’s the bridge plane itself, which seems deeply connected to my experiences and expressing them metaphorically. My self-portrait composite photography work has exclusively been set in this psychic landscape. Then there are distinct other worlds I call "portal worlds," full of characters, unique settings, and narrative themes, which bleed into the Luminous Limina. I suspect they are stories that exist in the ethers for anyone to tap into. Most of my digital paintings and writings depict these worlds.
I'm currently developing this mythology across mediums: short 1st-person fiction set in the Luminous Limina paired with composite photography as a visual companion will be featured on my Substack and Instagram/Facebook. Parallel to this, serialized stories featuring some of my portal worlds will unfold on their own terms on these platforms. YouTube will house my behind-the-scenes workshopping of all this creative work.
I believe we all have something like my Luminous Limina within us, and artists are the most tapped into it. It reveals itself in our taste and style, in what stories and colors and vibes circulate our systems, in what messages our subconscious radiates outwards. As an artist, I feel my great work is the Luminous Limina. My goals are to reveal my unique inner creative world and help others discover their own, be a bridge for the fantastical worlds that want to enter our collective consciousness, and promote self-healing and transformation through creative expression.
I hope you will follow my journey while undertaking your own.
